Universal Studios Hollywood’s New Fast & Furious Ride Includes Tribute to Paul Walker
Universal Studios Hollywood’s newest high-speed attraction is racing into the spotlight with a special connection to one of the Fast & Furious franchise’s most beloved stars.
The new ride, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, is Universal Studios Hollywood’s first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster. Built around the energy of the blockbuster film franchise, the attraction is designed to make guests feel as if they are drifting through the world of street racing, movie cars, and high-speed action.

But for many fans, one of the most meaningful parts of the ride is its tribute to late actor Paul Walker, who played Brian O’Conner in the Fast & Furious films.
Walker’s character remains one of the emotional centers of the franchise. Brian O’Conner began the story as an undercover police officer drawn into the street racing world of Dominic Toretto, played by Vin Diesel. Over time, Brian became part of the “family” that helped define the series.
Universal’s new coaster honors that legacy through its ride vehicle designs. Among the four vehicles featured in the attraction are two cars inspired by Brian O’Conner: a blue Nissan Skyline GT-R and an orange Toyota Supra.
The Nissan Skyline GT-R is inspired by Brian’s 2002 blue model, known for its distinctive look and performance styling. The Toyota Supra is inspired by Brian’s orange 1994 car, one of the most memorable vehicles in the Fast & Furious franchise.
For longtime fans, those cars are not just vehicles. They represent some of the most iconic moments from the early films and the relationship between Brian and Dom that helped turn Fast & Furious into a global phenomenon.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is also a major technical step for Universal Studios Hollywood. The ride features 360-degree rotating vehicles designed to simulate the sensation of drifting. Guests will travel along 4,100 feet of track at speeds up to 72 mph, making it one of the most intense attractions ever built at the park.
The coaster is located on the Upper Lot and winds over sections of the theme park, including the Starway escalator area connecting the Upper and Lower Lots. Universal says the track was built with sound reduction technology, a major detail for a ride that moves across highly visible areas of the park.
The attraction includes four ride vehicle themes: Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Charger, Han Seoul-Oh’s Mazda RX-7, Brian O’Conner’s Nissan Skyline GT-R, and Brian O’Conner’s Toyota Supra. Together, the lineup reflects the franchise’s mix of muscle cars, imports, street racing culture, and character-driven nostalgia.

Universal has also placed the ride inside a red-brick, garage-style structure, connecting the experience to the street-racing roots of the films. Guests will queue in a space designed to feel like part of the Fast & Furious world before boarding the drifting coaster.
The tribute to Walker comes during a major milestone year for the franchise. The original Fast and the Furious film celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2026. The series has since grown into one of Universal Pictures’ biggest franchises, with multiple sequels, spin-offs, merchandise, video games, animated projects, and theme park attractions.
Walker died in 2013, but his presence has remained deeply important to fans and cast members. The franchise has continued to reference his character respectfully, and co-stars have often spoken about his lasting impact on the films and their real-life friendships.
That is why the inclusion of Brian O’Conner-inspired cars in Hollywood Drift feels significant. Rather than adding a simple name or photo, Universal has built the tribute into the ride experience itself. Fans can step into vehicles inspired by the cars that helped make Brian one of the franchise’s most memorable characters.
The ride also signals a new direction for Fast & Furious attractions at Universal parks. Earlier Fast & Furious experiences relied heavily on screen-based action. Hollywood Drift is designed as a more physical, high-speed thrill ride, giving guests a more direct sense of speed, motion, and drifting.

For fans of the films, the attraction offers both adrenaline and nostalgia. For theme park visitors, it adds a major new coaster to Universal Studios Hollywood’s lineup alongside Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World — The Ride, Transformers: The Ride-3D, and Revenge of the Mummy.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is expected to become one of the park’s biggest draws, especially for visitors who want a thrill ride connected to a globally recognized movie franchise.
But beyond the speed and technology, the ride’s emotional appeal may come from its connection to Paul Walker. By including Brian O’Conner’s most recognizable cars, Universal has created a tribute that longtime fans will immediately understand.
For a franchise built on speed, loyalty, and family, that detail may be what makes the new attraction feel truly connected to the heart of Fast & Furious.
