A quiet Alabama neighborhood was shaken by a horrific family tragedy after a 17-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his mother to death and critically injured his father following a series of family arguments, according to authorities and a next-door neighbor.
Samantha Baker, 37, was found dead with multiple stab wounds outside the family’s home in the private Belforest community of Baldwin County on Sunday night. Her husband, 46-year-old Lance Baker, was also seriously injured but survived after desperately fleeing through the neighborhood in search of help.
The couple’s teenage son, identified in reports as Brandon Baker, has been charged with murder and attempted murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond and is expected to be tried as an adult.

Earlier Argument Reportedly Captured on Security Camera
According to next-door neighbor Shawn Scurry, a tense argument between Samantha and her teenage son occurred on the family’s front porch at approximately 2:30 p.m., several hours before the fatal attack.
Parts of the confrontation were reportedly captured by a nearby home surveillance camera.
Scurry said the disagreement appeared to involve Samantha’s Facebook activity, where she frequently shared stories and comments about her two sons and everyday family life. The neighbor believed the teenager may have been upset about one of the posts.
The argument was described as loud, but it eventually ended when Samantha instructed her son to complete his chore of mowing the lawn. According to the neighbor, he went ahead and did so.
Scurry said she had lived next door for roughly a year and had not previously heard the family involved in a major argument.
Authorities have not said that the earlier social media disagreement directly caused the deadly attack. Investigators said the stabbing occurred hours later during a separate confrontation over a disciplinary matter inside the family’s home.

Deadly Attack Unfolded Hours Later
At approximately 9 p.m., authorities say another argument erupted between the teenage suspect and his parents.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the teenager allegedly obtained a kitchen knife and repeatedly attacked both Samantha and Lance. The wounded parents attempted to escape from the house, but the violence allegedly continued outside.
Neighborhood security cameras reportedly captured disturbing audio from the scene.
The neighbor said Samantha could be heard screaming before Lance desperately pleaded for the attack to stop. The wounded father then ran from house to house seeking help as the teenager allegedly followed him.
Lance reportedly left bloodied handprints on neighbors’ doors while trying to find someone who could assist him. Several residents were apparently away from home at the time.
Samantha was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lance, a U.S. Army Reserve Battalion Commander, was airlifted to a hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds. Authorities initially described his condition as critical, but by Wednesday he was reportedly in stable condition.

Teen Allegedly Called 911 After Attack
Authorities said the teenage suspect eventually returned to the family home and called 911.
Police arrived and arrested him without incident. Investigators have characterized the case as an isolated domestic incident.
The Bakers’ younger teenage son was not at home when the attack occurred, according to police.
The family had appeared happy in numerous photographs shared on social media, including images of church visits, high school football games and other family activities. Samantha, who worked as a realtor, regularly posted affectionate messages about her sons while also occasionally joking about the challenges of raising teenagers.
The couple had reportedly met while serving in the U.S. Army Reserve.
The tragedy has devastated those who knew the family and stunned residents of the otherwise peaceful neighborhood.
The 17-year-old suspect faces one count of murder in connection with his mother’s death and one count of attempted murder for the alleged attack on his father.
The case remains subject to the judicial process, and the charges are allegations unless and until proven in court.
