Texas Mother’s Final Stand Revealed Before Fatal Del Rio Stabbing

A Texas mother of five is being remembered for her courage after new details revealed her final moments before she died following a brutal daylight stabbing in Del Rio.

Caroline “Caro” Peña, 32, was fatally injured on June 25 after a violent confrontation outside a home on East 10th Street. Police said she was taken to Val Verde Regional Medical Center with multiple stab wounds before being transferred to a hospital in San Antonio, where she later died.

Three women have been charged with murder in connection with Peña’s death: 19-year-old Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, her 21-year-old sister Kitty Mia Diaz, and 21-year-old Kyandra Renee Faz. All three suspects are being held on high bonds while the investigation continues.

The case has drawn national attention after reports described a disturbing image taken shortly after the attack. The photo reportedly showed Peña bloodied but still standing, appearing to fight for her life after she had been stabbed.

Authorities have not publicly released every detail of the attack, but court documents and local reports claim surveillance footage captured the confrontation. According to those reports, Amaya “Cookie” Diaz allegedly exited a vehicle with a knife and stabbed Peña in the back before the other two suspects allegedly joined the assault.

Investigators said they reviewed surveillance video, processed physical evidence, and interviewed witnesses before identifying the suspects. Police arrested Kitty Diaz and Amaya Diaz later that afternoon, and Faz was taken into custody a short time later.

Peña’s death has devastated her family and friends. She was a mother of five and was known to loved ones as “Caro.” Friends described her as caring, supportive, and deeply devoted to her children.

One friend said she missed a phone call from Peña shortly before the attack and now wonders whether answering could have changed what happened. Another friend described the stabbing as shocking because it happened in broad daylight near a busy area.

The motive remains unclear. Police have said the attack was not random, but officials have not publicly confirmed what led to the confrontation. Reports have suggested that the women may have known each other, but the exact relationship and circumstances remain under investigation.

The case became even more disturbing to many viewers after video circulated showing two of the suspects smiling or appearing casual as police escorted them in handcuffs. The footage sparked anger online, with many people saying the behavior seemed cold given the seriousness of the accusations.

However, investigators have not said that the suspects’ behavior after arrest proves motive or guilt. Under U.S. law, all three women are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

That legal distinction is important because the public reaction has been intense. The images, arrest video, and emotional details of Peña’s death have spread widely on social media, but prosecutors will still need to prove the case in court.

For Peña’s family, the legal process is only one part of the tragedy. Her five children are now without their mother, and loved ones are trying to raise support for them after the sudden loss.

A GoFundMe campaign has reportedly been created to help Peña’s children and family. Friends say the children were the center of her life, making the attack even more heartbreaking for the Del Rio community.

The killing has also shaken residents because of where and how it happened. Del Rio is a border city in southwest Texas, and the assault occurred during the day, near a public area where witnesses could see what was happening.

Police have said the investigation remains active. Additional charges may be possible as detectives continue reviewing evidence and determining the full circumstances behind the fatal encounter.

Key questions remain unanswered. Investigators still need to determine what started the confrontation, whether the attack was planned, what role each suspect allegedly played, and whether any additional evidence will change the charges.

The case also raises painful questions about violence between women, public safety, and the speed at which a confrontation can become deadly.

Peña’s loved ones say she did not deserve what happened to her. They remember her not as a crime statistic, but as a mother, friend, and family member whose life was taken far too soon.

As the case moves forward, prosecutors will likely rely on surveillance footage, witness statements, forensic evidence, and police reports to build their case. Defense attorneys will also have an opportunity to challenge the allegations.

For now, Caroline “Caro” Peña’s final moments have become a haunting symbol of a mother’s desperate fight to survive.

Her death has left a family grieving, a community demanding answers, and three young women facing serious murder charges that could change the rest of their lives.
