The Brooklyn Bridge briefly caught fire during New York City’s Fourth of July fireworks display, creating a tense moment as crowds watched one of the country’s biggest Independence Day celebrations.

The incident happened Saturday night during Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks show over the East River. Videos from the scene showed flames and smoke coming from multiple sections of the bridge while fireworks continued lighting up the sky above.
Some spectators initially believed the fire was part of the show. However, witnesses said the flames quickly became more noticeable, with black smoke rising from the bridge as the display continued.

According to reports, the fires appeared to go out within about a minute. Officials had not immediately confirmed whether the Brooklyn Bridge suffered any serious damage.
The fire happened during a major holiday celebration marking both America’s 250th anniversary and the 50th annual Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular. This year’s show was promoted as one of the largest in Macy’s history, with more than 85,000 fireworks shells launched from locations along the East River, Hudson River, and Brooklyn Bridge.

The show drew huge crowds across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and nearby waterfront areas. Many people gathered early to watch the fireworks, which featured colorful explosions, patriotic music, and special effects around the city’s famous skyline.
Despite the brief fire, the fireworks display continued and remained one of the most talked-about events of the night. Authorities were expected to review the incident and determine whether any repairs or safety inspections would be needed.

No injuries were immediately reported in connection with the bridge fire.
