Washington, D.C. is preparing for a major Independence Day celebration as President Donald Trump’s “Salute to America” event is expected to turn the nation’s capital into the center of a large patriotic showcase.
The July 4 event, tied to America’s 250th birthday celebration, is scheduled to take place at the Washington Monument Grounds, with public entry opening at 5:00 p.m. Organizers are expecting large crowds, and guests are being encouraged to arrive early, use Metro or rideshare, and prepare for heavy security around the National Mall.
One of the biggest highlights will be the military flyovers. The celebration is expected to feature more than two dozen aerial demonstrations, including appearances from elite military aircraft and flight teams. The flyovers are planned to continue throughout the day, giving spectators a dramatic display above Washington’s historic landmarks.

The night will end with what organizers are promoting as one of the largest fireworks shows in history. The fireworks display is expected to begin around 10:30 p.m. ET and last about 40 minutes. Reports say the show could include more than 850,000 projectiles, making it one of the most ambitious Independence Day fireworks events ever staged in the United States.
Security will be tight for the event. The celebration has been designated a major security operation, with federal and local authorities working together to manage crowds, monitor restricted areas, and keep visitors safe. Guests should expect screening checkpoints, road closures, and limited parking near the event area.
Because of the summer heat, organizers are also preparing water stations, medical support, and cooling areas for attendees. Visitors are advised to bring patience, dress for hot weather, and follow official instructions from security and event staff.
